What is stored
Expenses include the amount, time, bank (for captured Expenses), Category and Notes taken from bank text. To spot duplicates, Monity also stores a key made from notification details such as the account balance, printed time, transfer amount or reference number, depending on the bank.
When a notification cannot be read, its full text is saved as the Note of an Unreadable Expense. This may include part of an account number.
The app also stores Categories, Budgets and their history, settings, the trial start date and a summary file that Home Screen widgets read.
Where it lives
Expenses, Categories and Budgets are stored on your iPhone in Monity’s shared App Group container. The widget summary file lives there too. Settings are stored in the app’s preferences.
When iCloud is available, Expenses, Categories and Budgets sync through your own iCloud private database. The trial start date and the free plan’s five available Category IDs use iCloud key-value storage. The trial start date is also stored in the phone’s Keychain; the earliest date is used across devices.
The app works without signing in to iCloud. Signing out of iCloud or turning off Monity’s iCloud switch removes Monity’s data from that iPhone. Your iCloud copy remains, and turning iCloud back on downloads it again. Anything you add while iCloud is off is kept.
What the developer receives
The app sends no spending data to the developer. There is no developer server, analytics SDK or crash-reporting SDK.
Apple passes crash reports and app usage analytics to the developer only if you have enabled sharing with app developers. If you email support, the developer receives the address and message you send.
Apple services
Apple handles purchases and subscription management through StoreKit. Monity reads your subscription status from Apple when checking access and stores no purchase records itself.
Apple also handles iCloud. Synced app data lives in your own private iCloud storage, rather than on a Monity server.
Retention and deletion
Expenses and other app data stay until you remove them. You can delete Expenses in the app. Captures saved on the free plan stay locked: they can’t be opened or deleted one by one until you subscribe, and they’re removed with the rest of the app’s data. Delete the app to remove its local data, including settings and the widget summary. Deleting the app does not delete the copy in iCloud; remove Monity’s iCloud data separately in Apple’s Settings.
The trial start date survives app deletion in the phone’s Keychain by design, so reinstalling cannot restart the trial. It contains only a date and cannot be removed separately without erasing the phone. Removing iCloud app data does not remove this Keychain date.
You can stop Monity from receiving bank notification text at any time by turning off or deleting its Shortcuts automation. You can turn off the app icon badge in Settings → Notifications → Monity, and iCloud sync in Settings → your name → iCloud.
The website and support email
This website runs no analytics and loads no third-party resources. Your language choice is kept only in your browser. Cloudflare hosts and serves the pages.
Support email goes to the developer’s mailbox provider, Google (Gmail). The developer uses your address and message only to reply, and deletes your messages on request.
Apple, Cloudflare and Google handle data only to provide their own services, under their own privacy policies. The developer shares your data with no one else.
